Isopentanol

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Isopentanol is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with a minimum purity of 98% (CAS 123-51-3, FLAVIS 02.003). It belongs to functional group 2b, sensory additives - flavouring compounds.

What it is for. It is used as a flavouring additive in feed, incorporated via a premix, for all animal species. This type of substance is generally used to standardise or modify the organoleptic profile of feed, to support palatability and intake consistency.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum level is 5 mg/kg of complete feed at 12% moisture; above this level, labelling of premixtures, feed materials and compound feed must state the functional group, additive name, identification number and amount of active substance added. Handling requires operational procedures and personal protective equipment to limit inhalation, skin and eye contact risks; storage and stability conditions must be specified on the label.
