Description

What it is. Mineral raw material obtained from ground or granulated calcareous marine algae (maërl). Naturally occurring product listed in the minerals chapter of catalogue 68/2013 under reference 11.1.4.

What it is for. It is generally used as a source of calcium in feed formulation, in a similar way to other marine calcareous materials. It would generally be employed for species and stages requiring calcium supplementation, and may also contribute trace minerals from its marine algal origin. Inclusion level is adjusted according to the diet's overall calcium balance.

Points to watch. Calcium content and insoluble ash in HCl must be declared, with insoluble ash declaration required above 5%. As a natural marine product, composition may vary between batches depending on origin and processing; store under dry conditions to limit degradation.
