Description
What it is. Pentanal (FLAVIS 05.005, CAS 110-62-3) is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with the formula C5H10O and a minimum purity of 97 %. It belongs to functional group 2b of sensory additives (flavouring compounds).
What it is for. It is used as a flavour in feed for all animal species, incorporated via a premixture. The recommended maximum content of the active substance is 5 mg/kg of complete feed at 12 % moisture; above this level, labelling of premixtures and feed must state the functional group, the additive name, its identification number and the quantity added.
Points to watch. The instructions for use of the additive and premixtures must specify storage and stability conditions. Personal protective measures (inhalation, skin or eye contact) are required during handling when organisational procedures do not sufficiently control the risk.
