Description
What it is. Salicylaldehyde is a flavouring substance (functional group 2b) obtained by chemical synthesis, registered under FLAVIS number 05.055 (CAS 90-02-8, formula C7H6O2). Its purity is set at a minimum of 95% according to the regulatory annex.
What it is for. It is used as a sensory flavouring additive, incorporated into feed in the form of a premixture. It is authorised for all animal species, with no age or category restriction specified in the text. Its use fits within the formulation of compound feed where a specific aromatic note is sought.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance is 1 mg/kg for complete feed at 12% moisture; above this level, labelling of premixtures and feed must indicate the functional group, identification number and added quantity. The instructions for use must specify storage and stability conditions, and protective measures (safety glasses, gloves) are required where skin or eye contact risk cannot be eliminated.
