Description
What it is. Selenised yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3399, inactivated, supplying selenium in organic form, mainly as selenomethionine, obtained by culturing yeast in a selenium-enriched medium. The preparation has a selenium content of 2,000 to 3,500 mg Se/kg, of which more than 97% is organic and more than 63% is selenomethionine.
What it is for. Nutritional additive from the trace element compounds functional group, used to meet selenium requirements of all animal species via premix. Organic selenium is involved in the animal's antioxidant systems and immune regulation. Research work illustrates the interest of organic selenomethionine forms in contexts of oxidative or inflammatory stress in pigs and laying hens, though these results do not constitute a dosing recommendation.
Points to watch. Maximum supplementation of organic selenium is set at 0.2 mg of selenium per kg of complete feed at 12% moisture, and total selenium content must not exceed 0.50 mg/kg in total. The additive must be incorporated as a premix, with personal protective equipment required against inhalation and skin contact during handling. Storage and stability conditions must be specified in the instructions for use of the additive and premixes.
