Trimethyloxazole

Additive Sensory additives Authorised in animal feed (EU)

Description

What it is. Trimethyloxazole is a flavouring substance (functional group 2b, sensory additive) obtained by chemical synthesis, with a purity above 95 % (CAS number 20662-84-4, FLAVIS number 13.169).

What it is for. It is used as a flavour in feed for all animal species, incorporated in the form of a premixture. As with flavouring substances of this type, it would generally be used to standardise or reinforce the odour/taste profile of the complete feed.

Points to watch. The recommended maximum content of active substance per kilo of complete feed (12 % moisture) is 0.05 mg for marine animals, 0.3 mg for poultry and pigs, and 0.5 mg for other species. If the premixture dose risks exceeding these levels, the label must state the functional group, identification number and amount added. Storage conditions and stability to heat treatment must be indicated in the instructions for use, and personal protective equipment is required where inhalation or skin/eye contact risks exist.
