Description
What it is. Undecanal is a flavouring substance obtained by chemical synthesis, with chemical formula C11H22O (CAS 112-44-7), listed as FLAVIS 05.034. Its minimum purity is 92%.
What it is for. This additive belongs to the functional group of flavouring compounds (2b) and is generally used for its organoleptic properties in feedingstuffs. It is incorporated in the form of a premixture, for all animal species. As with flavourings of this type, its use aims to modulate palatability or the aromatic profile of the complete feed.
Points to watch. The recommended maximum content for the active substance is 5 mg/kg of complete feed at 12% moisture; above this level, labelling of premixtures, feed materials and compound feed must state the functional group, the name of the additive, its identification number and the quantity added. Storage and stability conditions must be specified in the instructions for use. Handling requires protective measures against inhalation and skin or eye contact.
